Bounce Back? No Thanks.
This week marks Maggie's 1st birthday, which means I'm 1 year postpartum! 🎂 🎉 It's happy birthday to our little one, but also happy birthday to me! 🙃
I wanted to mark the occasion by talking about "bouncing back" 🙄
It's totally inaccurate on many levels:
1. That yearning for a pre-baby body is honestly boll*cks. ('Scuse my French). How derogatory to your own body and what it's been through? Where's the appreciation for the gargantuan task that's just been completed? And the mammoth task of new-motherhood that is still ongoing?
⚡️ Bounce-back culture is ungrateful and neglectful.
2. How scientifically inaccurate too? I've had two babies - that pre-baby body is well and truly where it belongs now - in the past. Why can't we talk about the forward journey as a fit AF mum? I don't want my pre-pregnancy body back - cos that would be completely weird.
⚡️ Bounce-back culture looks backwards. Look to today, and to tomorrow.
3. With both babies it has takes months if not years to get to any kind of level where I'm feeling fly. Months of rehab, months of patience, months of hard work - day in day out.
⚡️ Bounce-back culture undermines all that hard work
4. The PRESSURE this phrase adds is no fun at all! 🤦♀️ And it's what I believe is what causes all these postpartum injuries. Ladies feeling like they have to, or want to, just jump right back to where they were.
⚡️ Bounce-back culture creates pressure and negative vibes.
That's why at Hatch, we don't expect you to bounce back.
We believe in giving you the right training for YOUR wonderful and very clever body TODAY.
Our postpartum program gives you the tools to safely return to high-intensity exercise when you're ready.
No rush, no pressure, just your pace! 🏋️♀️🏃♀️
Why?
Because becoming a mama changes us for the better! We're stronger, more resilient, and filled with love like never before.
So, to the next person who tells you that you'll bounce back, stand tall and confidently say, "No thanks! And I wouldn't have it any other way!" 🚀💖
