Eat These Foods to Speed Up Your Metabolism

“When I was younger, I could eat whatever I wanted to, and it didn’t matter!”

One of the main reasons we focus SO much on what you’re eating vs. just focusing on the amount of calories you’re consuming is because the types of food you eat either help your metabolism thrive or keep it in the dumps. 

Different foods have varying effects on metabolism due to their nutrient composition and how the body metabolizes them.

For example:

Protein: Protein requires more energy to digest compared to fats and carbohydrates, which can temporarily increase your metabolic rate through a process called the thermic effect of food (TEF). Bonus points: protein helps build and maintain muscle mass, which also supports a healthy metabolism.

Fiber: Foods high in fiber, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, can help regulate blood sugar levels and help manage your appetite, and help you feel fuller, longer. Bonus points: you don’t have to feel starving to lose weight.

Healthy fats: Consuming sources of healthy fats, such as avocados, nuts, seeds, and fatty fish, can help regulate hormone levels and support healthy metabolic function. Bonus points: fats play a role in nutrient absorption and satiety, which can impact overall metabolic health.

Sugary and processed foods: Foods high in added sugars and refined carbohydrates can cause spikes and crashes in blood sugar levels, leading to fluctuations in energy levels and wreaking havoc on your metabolism over time. Needless to say, excessively consuming these foods could contribute to weight gain, disease, poor gut health, hormone dysfunction, and metabolic issues.
